El proyecto Centro de la memoria de armero tiene fundamento en la tragedia ocurrida en el municipio de Armero, Tolima, el 13 de noviembre de 1985, Lugar donde se produjo una avalancha causada por la erupción del volcán Nevado del Ruiz y que llega a armero por el Río Lagunilla y destruye un pueblo de 32000 habitantes dejando solo 9000 sobrevivientes. El proyecto se ubica en el municipio de Lérida con la intención de cubrir una necesidad de homenaje a un municipio que abrió sus brazos a los sobrevivientes del pueblo hermano y una carencia de identidad de los sobrevivientes armeritas que no han obtenido un espacio para recordar, vivificar y evocar sus vivencias pasadas.
